Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave may not be everyone's preferred type of game, but it has its own loyal fan base. After the recent Nintendo Direct, one reader expresses their disappointment and regret for purchasing the Switch 2 at launch. They criticize the current schedule of new games and question Nintendo's decision-making.

In all honesty, I think most of us were expecting more from the 60-minute Nintendo Direct last Friday. Unfortunately, I didn't come away from it feeling too excited or reassured about the direction of the Switch 2's line-up. I couldn't even pinpoint the biggest announcement, as the new Fire Emblem game didn't really stir up much excitement for me.

The Direct started off well with the 40th anniversary games, but nothing stood out as new and related to Super Mario Bros. The Yoshi game had beautiful graphics, but it seemed more geared towards younger fans. As expected, Nintendo has to cater to a diverse audience, but what about the regular fans? What was there for us?

Metroid Prime 4 looked promising, but we only got a brief glimpse of it. What else was there? A release date for Hades 2 and a costly Virtual Boy joke? This Direct was yet another letdown in a series of underwhelming ones this year. I'm starting to regret purchasing the Switch 2 so early.

Mario Kart World may be enjoyable, but it failed to meet the high expectations set for it. The lack of content and emptiness in the open world left much to be desired. A good DLC could potentially fix these issues, but that's another thing we didn't get from the Direct. Instead, we were presented with a paid-for DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza that seemed hastily put together.

In terms of the number of games released this year, Nintendo has done well. We can't complain about the volume, but the choices of what to make are questionable. Perhaps it's a matter of creating games quickly and cheaply, preferably by someone outside of Nintendo's own studios, but I still don't understand.

If Splatoon is such a hit in Japan, why was the only game announced a spin-off with no release year yet? Considering the similarities between Splatoon 2 and 3, creating a fourth game should have been easy and fast.

Despite all the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games, there's still no news about Super Smash Bros. Where's the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? It seems like the most obvious choice, especially since they've expressed uncertainty about creating a new game. Simply adding new characters to Ultimate would be an instant hit. It doesn't have to be released this year, but at least announce it!

Speaking of spin-offs, why are there so many Pokémon spin-offs but no new mainline game? The same goes for Kirby. Personally, I'm not a fan of the character, but wouldn't a new platformer be more appealing than a Mario Kart-style racing game?

I understand that it'll be a while before we get another proper Zelda game, but surely anything would be a better spin-off than another Hyrule Warriors. There's still no news about a new Animal Crossing, even though support for the last one ended years ago. If I recall correctly, it was announced well before its release.

There's a good chance that the Switch 2 will end up being an excellent console, but at the moment, I'm not sure if I would recommend it to anyone. I don't feel like I've been ripped off or completely wasted my money, but I do regret jumping in so early. The console is great, but the game line-up since launch has been disappointing. There's no way around it. I don't know why, and after the final big Direct of the year, I still don't know when it'll improve.

At least Yoshi and the Mysterious Book looks good, right?
