The premiere of the movie
Jeremy Welch reviews Stella, the new award-winning film set in 1937 Galloway. This movie, starring Oli Fyne as Stella and Gary Lewis as Lord Rig, chronicles the hardships of a penniless Oxford graduate of Jewish descent who is seeking a job to tutor the children of Lord Rig.

The backdrop of the film is the looming threat of war in Europe and the uncertain fate of Stella's parents. Amid the turmoil, Stella falls in love with a nomadic poet living on the Rig estate, played by Louis Hall. Adding to the complexity, Lord Rig is a staunch supporter of Oswald Mosley, played by Rufus Wright.

The dialogue is expertly written by Jessica Fox, and the performances of the lead actors, Oli Fyne and Louis Hall, are outstanding. I have been following their careers since their early days at the Edinburgh Festival, and I believe this won't be the last we hear from them on the silver screen.

Stella is a testament to the Scottish Film industry both on and off the camera. I highly recommend streaming it or catching it in one of the select cinemas. It is available free on STV Player streaming service UK wide.
