The Bump is working hard to raise awareness and fight maternal mortality, with the launch of its Black Maternal Health Hub.
This year, the United States saw an alarming increase in maternal mortality rates, with Black women dying at a rate 3-4 times higher than non-Hispanic white women1. To help address this crisis, The Bump, a leading multi-platform brand for pregnancy and parenting, has expanded its Black Maternal Health Hub with the launch of the Reclaiming Your Power vodcast series. Through this series, notable Black women such as Olympic runner Sanya Richards-Ross and Latham Thomas, bestselling author and founder of Mama Glow Foundation, are sharing their inspiring stories and helping to raise awareness of this issue.

"At The Bump, we are committed to providing authentic and inclusive content to ensure that all parents, especially Black parents, feel empowered to receive the care and support they need to thrive during and after birth," said Jen Lee, Head of Marketing at The Bump.

The Bump vodcast series Reclaiming Your Power features notable Black leaders, such as Olympic runner Sanya Richards-Ross and activist Hannah Bronfman, working to make significant changes in support of Black maternal health. The series covers topics such as “The Role of Wellness in Your Pregnancy Journey” and “Why Your Wellness Team is so Important”. With the launch of this series, The Bump hopes to reduce maternal morbidity rates and to encourage Black families to focus on the joy and celebration of expanding their families.

In 2021, the maternal mortality rate in the US saw a significant increase, especially among Black women who were dying at a rate three to four times higher than non-Hispanic white women. Unfortunately, this rate had already been one of the highest among industrialized nations, and almost doubled between 2018 and 2020.

The Bump’s Head of Marketing, Jen Lee, said that “The maternal mortality health crisis is a pressing issue that disproportionately affects far too many Black women in the United States. At The Bump, it is our imperative to raise awareness and educate parents about this issue. The Black Maternal Health Hub aims to inform, support and empower Black women to advocate for their health and community. Our goal is to reduce maternal morbidity rates while encouraging Black families to focus on the joy and celebration of expanding their families. We are committed to providing authentic and inclusive content to ensure that all parents, especially Black parents, feel emboldened to receive the care and support they need to thrive during and after birth.”
