Natalie Navarro, a 17 year old teen, is facing a capital murder charge for the shooting death of 21 year old Arturo Pena. According to the indictment released earlier this week, Navarro is also accused of trying to rob Pena at the time of the shooting.
Investigators believe that Navarro and Pena had met online prior to the incident, and Navarro had also been in contact with her accomplice Yordy Martinez, a 21 year old male. An Amber Alert was issued for Navarro on September 1, after she had gone missing from an apartment complex in Far East Dallas.
When questioned by police, Navarro claimed that she had only spoken to Yordy online and had never met him in person. However, police suspect that Navarro had met Pena in person two weeks before the shooting and attempted to set him up.
After the Amber Alert was issued, Navarro was eventually found near the Mexico border. Her accomplice, Yordy Martinez, remains at large.
Arturo Pena's girlfriend, Veronica Lopez, wrote on a GoFundMe page that their "angel was viciously taken from his family and loved ones". She added that although she couldn't say too much as the investigation was still ongoing, she had heard a still voice saying "I'm home. I'm home". The page has already raised more than $3,300.
Another teenage girl, Kaitlyn Coones, is also facing charges as the judge determined that she will be tried as an adult for allegedly killing her boyfriend's mother.
