In a tragic turn of events, a teenager has been taken into custody after reportedly crashing his car into a security booth in Discovery Bay on Saturday morning. The incident resulted in the death of one of the guards who was inside at the time of the crash.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old boy was driving eastbound on Balfour Road when he approached the intersection with Bixler Road. It was at this point that he collided with the guard booth, located at a gated community about two miles east of Brentwood.
Officer Dan Gilmore of the CHP shared that there were two security guards on duty inside the booth when the accident occurred, just before midnight on Saturday. Sadly, one of the guards passed away at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The teenage driver was also taken to the hospital for precautionary measures before being taken into custody. He has since been booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall on charges of vehicular manslaughter. While intoxication is not believed to have played a role in the accident, authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
As of Saturday afternoon, the investigation is still ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the security guard who lost their life in this tragic incident.
