After a recent bout of illness, Susanna Reid has returned to ITV's Good Morning Britain. The 52-year-old was absent from the show after the National Television Awards, where she lost her voice.
Susanna took to social media yesterday to thank her fans for their support and to update them on her voice. She revealed that the specialist she had seen advised her not to risk using her voice until it was better.
The presenter then listed the various remedies she had been trying to strengthen her vocal cords, such as steaming, drinking herbal teas, and consuming lots of water.
When Susanna returned to work this morning, she reflected on how she had ‘no voice at all’ on Saturday evening and humorously compared her raspy tone to that of fellow ITV presenter Holly Willoughby.
Fellow presenter Ed Balls commented on her voice sounding great, to which Susanna jokingly asked if she sounded like a 20-a-day smoker. Although Ed agreed, he insisted it sounded "great".
The star then went on to explain that she sounded like Holly, "with bronchitis". Susanna also revealed that climate change-denying trolls were up in arms after she had suggested the hot weather could have affected her vocal cords, but after seeing a specialist she realized it was due to not being hydrated in the heat.
Susanna also reflected on her attendance at the NTAs, where she was the first to leave. She recalled the cab driver making a comment about her not 'partying' due to not drinking or smoking, which could explain why she had lost her voice.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
