Kushalnagar, Aug. 14: Forest personnel on duty have succeeded in saving a man who attempted suicide by jumping into the Cauvery river.
Harish (40), a resident of nearby Chikkahonnur village who was working as an auto driver in Kushalnagar, was suffering from debt and was attempting to commit suicide by jumping into the river from the Cauvery bridge on the Kushalnagar-Koppa border. Kushalnagar forest inspection gate personnel Sampath and H. V. Dharma immediately rushed to the spot and managed to pull him off the bridge just as he was about to jump into the river. Later, they informed the local police station and took further action.
Harish's mobile phone, which was attempting suicide, fell into the overflowing river. Even if it had been a moment too late, he would have fallen into the river and a disaster would have occurred, the bodyguard forest personnel told reporters who went to the spot.
Harish said that he had taken a loan from an unknown bank to buy an auto and was unable to pay the loan installments due to which he attempted suicide. Upon receiving the information, the Kushalnagar police visited the spot and took further action.
