Bhubaneswar was abuzz with news as the state Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, made some significant announcements on Friday. In a press conference held after their meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja shared that the Cabinet had given the green light to eight proposals. One of the major announcements was the release of two instalments of Rs 10,000 each under the Subhadra Yojana. And here's the catch - the beneficiaries who apply before March 31st will receive both the instalments at once!
Ahuja further explained that this decision was taken to ensure that the eligible beneficiaries receive the financial aid for the year 2024 without any delay. In addition to this, the Cabinet also approved a proposal to increase the pension amount for eligible pensioners aged 80 years and above or those with 80 per cent and above disabilities. This will be applicable to both the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana and National Social Assistance Programme and the pension amount will now be Rs 3500 per month, effective from this month.
Another noteworthy decision was the provision of state financial assistance for the installation of rooftop solar panels under PMSG-MBY. Ahuja mentioned that the state government will provide an additional subsidy of Rs 25,000 for households installing 1KW rooftop solar panels. And for those who choose to install panels with a maximum capacity of 2KW, they will receive an additional subsidy of Rs 25,000. Furthermore, households installing solar panels of 3KW will also be eligible for an additional subsidy of Rs 10,000 for the third unit.
The Cabinet also gave their in-principal approval for the repeal of the Employment of Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines Act 1993. This decision was taken to eliminate the inhumane practice of manual scavenging. In addition, the Cabinet also approved a proposal for the comprehensive restructuring of the Odisha Statistics and Economics Service cadre and Odisha Subordinate Statistics and Economics cadre. This will help to strengthen the state's system in terms of statistics and economics. All in all, it was a progressive and productive meeting for the state Cabinet as they worked towards the betterment of the citizens of Bhubaneswar and Odisha.
