Carrie Bernans, an actress and stuntwoman, has been left seriously injured after an alleged hit and run in New York City. The Color Purple star was among nine people struck by the driver around 1.30am on Monday morning, while walking past a food stand with friends.
Carrie, who starred as one of the elite female warriors in Marvel's Black Panther, is reportedly in stable condition and she is currently undergoing surgery following the incident. Her mother, Patricia Lee, shared an update on Instagram, detailing the extent of the actress' injuries and revealing she had been knocked unconscious. She has said she cannot walk and is still in a great deal of pain.
Patricia wrote: 'She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time…She’s in so much pain but healing. She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend & her were walking near. It ended up knocking her unconscious and pended her under the stand.'
Carrie also shared an incredibly raw video onto her own Instagram, showing her swollen and injured face. She confirmed that her surgery 'went well', but said she still cannot walk and is in 'so much pain'.
This horrific incident comes months after she welcomed her first child - a baby boy named Jaxon - into the world. The Agency entertainment team has also been in touch with Carrie, offering their support.
Carrie's ordeal is a reminder of how precious life is. We wish Carrie a speedy recovery and send her our love.
