Study reveals state with highest number of dog attacks on postal workers.
Australia Post has recently released some concerning statistics about dog attacks on postal workers. In just the past six months, there have been over 1420 recorded incidents across the country, averaging out to about 11 attacks per day. This is a worrying trend that has prompted Australia Post to reach out to dog owners, pleading with them to keep their beloved pets under control.

According to the data, Queensland has the highest number of dog attacks, with 466 incidents. It is followed by New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory. While Australia Post has not identified any specific breed as being more aggressive, they did note that smaller dogs tend to be involved in more attacks.

Interestingly, half of the attacks occurred on the customer's property, while one-third happened at the front door. Another 34% occurred on the street, with 8% involving dogs that were with their owners and 26% involving unattended dogs. Posties are also at risk when delivering mail to letterboxes, with 15% of attacks happening in this scenario.

Rod Maule, the general manager of safety and wellbeing at Australia Post, emphasized the stress and potential danger that posties face when delivering mail to homes with aggressive dogs. He urged dog owners to take responsibility for their pets and ensure that they are safely secured during mail delivery. If this is not possible, Maule suggested using Parcel Lockers as an alternative.

Australia Post also wants to remind customers that posties have the right to refuse delivery if they deem it unsafe to do so. They may also stop delivering to a customer's home until the danger is resolved. This is to ensure the safety of their employees and prevent any further attacks.

The data also revealed the worst locations for dog attacks in each state. In Queensland, the suburbs of Stafford, Darra, and Bundamba have the highest number of incidents. In New South Wales, it is Ingleburn, Tamworth, and Lidcombe. Western Australia has Rockingham, Bunbury, and Gwelup as the top three locations. In Victoria, Healesville, Nunawading, and Ferntree Gully have the most attacks. In South Australia, it is Glynde, Edinburgh North, and Salisbury South. The top three locations in the Northern Territory are Winnellie, Palmerston, and Katherine. In Tasmania, it is the Eastern Shore Hobart and Launceston. Lastly, in the Australian Capital Territory, Fyshwick, Mitchell, and Tuggeranong have the highest number of dog attacks.
