Society has become increasingly focused on appearances, but Dr Pranav Chandrana, an orthodontist from Gujarat, believes there is more to it than meets the eye. During the two-day CDA-IDA Conclave, organized jointly by the Commonwealth Dental Association and the Indian Dental Association, he spoke on the importance of treating crooked teeth for more than just looks.
“Good teeth are essential for proper digestion and overall health,” he said. “I suggest that a child's first orthodontic check-up should be done at the age of seven, so that any potential problems can be addressed earlier.”
The conclave was officially inaugurated by Mahendra Ladh, Assistant Director of RR CAT, along with Dr Rajeev Chuke, National President of the Indian Dental Association, and Dr Ashok Dhoble, Secretary General of the Commonwealth Dental Association. It was the first time that the conference was held in India, and was jointly hosted by the MP State Branch, Gujarat State Branch, and Maharashtra State Branch of IDA.
Prosthodontics Dr Amit Sadhwani also commented on the trend of people seeking perfect smiles. “Patients are very fond of venereal treatment for anything from the colour of their teeth to gaps between them,” he said.
The conference was held in a hybrid mode, with national and international delegates in attendance. It highlighted the importance of oral health, and the need to emphasize it in order to maintain overall wellbeing.
