Steve Fund appoints Black CEO to bring expertise to help youth of color facing mental health issues.
David R. McGhee has recently been named CEO of The Steve Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mental health and well-being of young people of color. The Steve Fund was started back in 2014 following the death of Stephen Rose, an alumnus of Harvard who took his own life at 24 years of age.

The Steve Fund was excited to share an exclusive statement with BLACK ENTERPRISE regarding their decision to appoint McGhee as CEO. They believe he is the perfect fit to address the issues that people of color often face due to racism, social inequality, and discrimination. McGhee will focus on providing equitable access to mental health resources, promoting culturally sensitive approaches to treatment, and raising awareness about the unique challenges that people of color face.

McGhee is no stranger to leading organizations and initiatives. He was chief strategy and program officer for the Schultz Family Foundation, vice president of organizational excellence and impact at the Skillman Foundation, and program director for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Most recently he played a key role in the local implementation of national programs and several successful community initiatives, including My Brothers Keeper Detroit.

McGhee will focus on helping reduce the stigma around mental health concerns, assisting young people of color to adapt to change, cope with stress, and have healthy relationships. He is thrilled to lead the strategy, facilitate new conversations, and work with The Steve Fund’s team to deliver innovative approaches to promote mental health, emotional well-being, and belonging.

The Steve Fund is excited to have McGhee in this role and believes he is the right person to help reduce mental health disparities within the broader society. He will be responsible for driving strategies and programs that bring transformative change nationwide for young people of color, their families, caregivers, peers, and institutions.
