State-level mud-swamp sports meet enthralled in Bhagamandala

Madikeri, Aug. 23: The state-level mud-swamp sports meet held in Bhagamandala today enthralled the spectators. Men, women and children participated in various sports events held on the spacious field, including running and tug-of-war.

The District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Madikeri, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kodagu District Youth Union, Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet Taluk Youth Union and Sri Krishna Yuvaka Sangha, Bhagamandala, inaugurated the 33rd State-level Mud-swamp Sports Meet at the local Balladka Appaji and Manuravara Gadde under the joint auspices of the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Madikeri, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kodagu District Youth Union, Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet Taluk Youth Union and Sri Krishna Yuvaka Sangha, Bhagamandala. Former Legislative Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah, who spoke after lighting the lamp and inaugurating the 33rd annual state-level mud-swamp sports meet at the local Balladka Appaji and Manuravara Gadde, said that the district is known in the country as the home of sports and has contributed a lot of athletes to various sports fields.

He said that it is a happy thing that the Kesarugadde Sports Festival, which was introduced in Kaggodlu and became famous at the national level, is now being held in Bhagamandala, the source of the mother Cauvery, by spreading it all over the country.

He hoped that in the coming days, such sports festivals will be held in every nook and corner of the district, so that the talents in the villages can be recognized and encouraged.

The chief guest, Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat Vice President Hosur Satish Kumar, spoke and said that it is a matter of pride that the state-level sports festival is being held in a rural area.

The presidency was held by Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat President Kalana Ravi. On the stage, Ayyangeri Gram Panchayat President Pushpa H.G., Madikeri Taluk Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee President Mandrira Mohandas, Nehru Youth Center Youth Coordination Officer Ullas, KTK Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Assistant Director Vismayi, Madikeri Taluk Youth Union President Baladi Dilipkumar, District Youth Union Treasurer Kunjilan Madhu Mohan, Bhagamandala Srikrishna Yuvak Sangha President Latesh, Sports Committee Convener Kaverimane Bharat, Balladka Appaji and Manu, owners of the field, were present.

District Youth Union President P.P. Sukumar welcomed and delivered the introductory remarks. District Youth Union member Naveen Derala compered the program and proposed the vote of thanks. Athletes from the district, Udupi, Mangalore, Sullia, Puttur, and Bangalore participated in the Kesarugadde Sports Meet.
