State-Level Journalists’ Cricket Tournament Kicks Off in Grand Style

Madikeri, Nov 2: A state-level sports extravaganza for journalists has unfolded in Kodagu, a district renowned as a cradle of sports. Journalists from 23 districts across the state have arrived to participate with great enthusiasm, adding vibrancy to this sporting festival. Despite the challenges posed by adverse weather, the journalists' sporting spirit remained undampened. Amidst concerns regarding rain, the event commenced with great joy and fervor, bringing a lively competitive atmosphere to the grounds. Journalists from various districts are participating in the tournament, fostering friendship, harmony, and a true spirit of sportsmanship.

Organized by the Kodagu District Working Journalists' Association in collaboration with the Karnataka Working Journalists' Association, the cricket matches were held simultaneously across five pitches prepared at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College grounds, the General Thimayya Stadium, and the Police Parade Grounds. A total of 24 teams—including the host teams, 'Kodagu Arabica' and 'Kodagu Robusta'—took to the field to showcase their talent. At a function held on the grounds of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, P.M. Narendra Swamy, Minister for Agriculture and Minister in-charge of Kodagu district, formally inaugurated the tournament. He noted that the role of journalists is crucial for ensuring that society moves in the right direction.

He stated that journalists, through their reporting, provide necessary advice and guidance to politicians; if this is received positively, it ultimately benefits society. He added that in sports, one should accept both victory and defeat with equal composure. He further remarked that the participation of individuals from 23 districts across the state has created a festive atmosphere at the event.
