Spectacular Tableaux Enthrall Cheerful Crowds

Gonikoppalu, Oct 22: The state festival of Dasara concluded in Gonikoppalu—a major commercial hub in South Kodagu—with a grand procession.

The enthusiasm of the crowds and the spectacular parade of creative tableaux, based on mythological themes, successfully captivated the public. Young men and women danced energetically to the beats of *valaga* (traditional music) and DJ sound systems accompanying the tableaux. The 48th annual Dasara public festival, organized by the Sri Kaveri Dasara Committee, was a resounding success.

In light of the Dasara procession, over 600 police officers and personnel, led by DySP Mahesh Kumar, were deployed to ensure security. Necessary measures were taken to manage the large crowds and vehicular traffic.

Following the conclusion of the procession, vehicular traffic was permitted on the main road after 8:30 AM. This year, the number of people who arrived to witness the Dasara celebrations far exceeded expectations.

Although the attractive tableaux were constructed at a cost of lakhs of rupees, some teams faltered in adhering to the schedule. Consequently, the time allotted for the public to view the tableaux at the bus stand had to be extended. The display continued from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. Thousands of people waited at the venue to witness the grandeur of the *mantapas* (pavilions/floats).

It was past 10:00 PM by the time the *mantapas* departed from their respective locations and reached the vicinity of the Uma Maheshwari Temple. Most of the *mantapas* were equipped with DJ sound systems. The police had issued instructions prohibiting the use of DJ systems after 10:00 PM. Accordingly, the organizers of the ten *mantapas* complied with the police directive and switched off the DJ systems.
