This month, Australian soap star Leslie Dayman passed away at the age of 85. The actor had been in the showbiz industry for more than five decades and had two sons, Nicholas Andrew and Timothy Paul, with his ex-wife and actress Diane Chamberlain.
Leslie first stepped into the world of theatre in 1955 and subsequently earned his first TV credit for playing detective Bill Hudson in the crime drama series Homicide in the 60s. He then gained recognition in the 80s when he took up roles in Sons and Daughters, Prisoner and E Street, where he portrayed Senior Sergeant George Sullivan.
In an interview with Eden Street, Leslie shared a funny experience of being mistaken for another actor while working on the show. He said, “One of the more hilarious consequences of public recognition was the fact I was often mistaken for Brian Wenzel, who was in the long running TV show “A Country Practice” and vice versa. We’re about the same age, both playing police sergeants in small communities – we both came from Adelaide in South Australia, where we were in amateur theatre back in the early 60s!”
Leslie’s final TV credit was in 2008 for Australian medical drama series All Saints. The show initially focused on the staff of Ward 17 until 2004 and later followed the lives of the staff working for the Emergency Department.
