On Thanksgiving Day, a serious crash occurred at the intersection of East 120th Avenue and Potomac Street in Adams County, leaving six people hospitalized, including two children. The South Adams County Fire Department was the first to report the incident on Thursday afternoon, notifying travelers that 120th Avenue was closed in both directions between Sable and Southgate boulevards. The department also expressed their concern for the victims and their families during this difficult time.
According to a summary released by the State Patrol, the accident took place at 3:32 p.m. and was caused by a Jeep that failed to obey a "traffic control device" on Potomac and entered the intersection. A quick glance at Google Maps reveals that there are stop signs for traffic on Potomac, but not for vehicles on 120th Avenue at that particular intersection. As a result, the Jeep collided with a Ford Escape SUV in the intersection, causing the driver and passenger of the Jeep to be ejected from the vehicle. They were immediately rushed to the hospital with what authorities described as "possible critical injuries."
The Ford also had four occupants - two adults and two children - who were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown. The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information to come forward by calling 303-239-4501.
This unfortunate crash is just one of the many that have occurred in Colorado recently. Some of the other incidents include a two-vehicle crash and fuel spill on Interstate 225, a man killed on I-25 near Monument while exchanging information with another driver after a crash, an Aurora driver killed in a wrong-way crash with a semitrailer on I-70 near Watkins, a Park County woman killed in a head-on crash with an Xcel truck on U.S. 285, and a Denver pedestrian who lost their life in a crash on North Colorado Boulevard.
As the State Patrol continues their investigation, our thoughts are with all the victims and their loved ones. We can only hope for a speedy recovery for those who were injured and urge everyone to drive safely and responsibly during this holiday season.
