Six Maoists died in clash with security forces in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh.

Raipur/Bijapur: A major victory for the security forces has been achieved as six Maoists, including four women cadres, were eliminated in a fierce encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, according to an official statement. The operation, carried out by a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), COBRA, and Special Task Force (STF), dealt a heavy blow to the Maoists' activities in the region. Among the deceased Maoists, the notorious commander DVCM Dilip Bedja, ACM Madvi Kosa, woman ACM Lakhi Madkam, and party member Radha have been identified. The identification of the remaining two is currently underway. Officials have confirmed that Dilip Bedja was a long-time threat to the state, known for his violent campaigns in the Indravati Reserve and National Park areas. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma revealed that Bedja was given the opportunity to surrender, but he refused. "Despite repeated calls to lay down arms, he chose to ignore them and was eventually neutralized. With his elimination, the National Park area can now be considered almost free of Maoist presence," Sharma stated. The encounter also resulted in the recovery of a large stockpile of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, one INSAS rifle, two .303 rifles, and six grenades. Authorities suspect that the Maoists were preparing for a major attack, highlighting the importance of the intelligence-led operation. According to Bijapur Superintendent of Police Dr Jitendra Yadav, intermittent firing between the security forces and Maoists continued throughout the day. "The dense forest terrain and difficult geographical conditions posed serious challenges, but our brave jawans displayed exemplary courage and strategy," Yadav noted. Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam, commended the discipline and efficiency of the security forces. "Despite the obstacles, the DRG, COBRA, and STF personnel carried out a decisive operation with unparalleled bravery. This marks another significant step towards dismantling Maoist networks in Bastar," he added. The successful operation is expected to significantly weaken Maoist influence in Bijapur, a district that has long been considered a stronghold. Security forces remain on high alert, continuing search operations to ensure the area is fully secured and to prevent any regrouping of Maoist cadres. Orissa POST – Odisha’s No.1 English Daily.
