Share your favourite Call Of Duty game and discuss why it's your top pick!
This week marks the release of the latest entry in the Call of Duty series - Modern Warfare 3. To celebrate, readers were asked what their favorite Call of Duty game was and whether they considered themselves a fan.

The majority of those who responded fondly remembered the Xbox 360 era of the series, with many citing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as their favorite. Although this year there was some hesitation about Modern Warfare 3, with some opting to wait until the price has dropped next year.

Call of Duty made an impressive debut with the first two console games, Finest Hour and Big Red One, released for the GameCube back in the day. Many lauded these titles for their innovations in single-player and multiplayer, their use of British and Russian protagonists, and the fantastic bloom lighting effect in Big Red One.

For some, the series began to lose its shine with Ghosts in 2013, with the last-gen titles being considered the worst period. The recent Modern Warfare reboots have been well received however, with some being cautiously optimistic about Modern Warfare 3.

Overall, most people consider themselves a fan of the series, citing the fast paced stories, solid gunplay, and the sheer variety of game modes and perks as reasons for their continued enjoyment. Whilst some bemoan the late-game bright colors and arcade-style shooting, this hasn't stopped them from picking up and playing a quick match when they have some spare time.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare – a seminal game
As the newest entry in the long-running series, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, hits shelves this week, fans of the series have been reminiscing over their favorite installments of the franchise. This weekend's Hot Topic was all about the series and which entries stand out the most.

Although it's not always fashionable to admit, most people were more than willing to share their love for the series. It was notable that most of the favorites were from the Xbox 360 era, and fans had some wariness about the new Modern Warfare 3.

For me, my favorite Call Of Duty game was Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It had a great story and amazing multiplayer, but this year I won't be buying the new game on release day. With reports of it being an expansion of last year's game and a short campaign, I'm not as excited as I usually am. I'm also currently enjoying Forza and Dead Island 2, so I'll likely pick up Modern Warfare 3 next year when it's a bit cheaper.

There was a period of about five years, from Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to Ghosts, where the series was really popular and deservedly so. There was great innovation for single-player and multiplayer and it set the standard for the era. After Ghosts, things seemed to get a bit more variable, especially on the last generation of consoles. I didn't really enjoy any of them and it all seemed to be targeting existing fans.

I think the original Call Of Duty series, before Modern Warfare, is often overlooked. Finest Hour and Big Red One for the GameCube were great games and I'm surprised they haven't been remastered. Back then, with only Medal Of Honor, it was so novel to be able to play as British and Russians too. The atmosphere of the Stalingrad level in Finest Hour was really hard-hitting and it was one of the first times computer games felt like a respected art form.

I would say I am a fan of Call Of Duty, as I have played them consistently over the years. I've always enjoyed the campaigns and the gunplay is the best around. My personal highlights are the original and new Modern Warfare trilogies and Cold War which had a really interesting setting and characters. Multiplayer is also a great way to spend a few minutes, although I do wish they'd sort out the cheating issue.

Overall, Call Of Duty is a staple of my gaming diet and I'm sure it will remain so until they remove the single-player elements. I love picking up and playing a quick game and there's so many game modes, weapons, and perks that it's hard to get bored. I just wish that towards the end of the lifecycles, the games don't devolve from a military shooter to a brightly colored laser gun arcade shooter.
