Residents of some of the most remote regions in Australia are being advised to prepare for potential flooding as an entire season's worth of rain is expected to hit the outback in the coming days. According to Weatherzone, a strong high-pressure system to the south of the country will bring significant amounts of rain from the east.
This moisture in the air, which is coming from warm seas to the east of Australia, will collide with a cut-off low-pressure system as it moves over the continent. In their report, Weatherzone stated, "The interaction of these two weather systems will result in heavier than usual rainfall over central and eastern Australia." The increase in rain is predicted to begin on Friday and Saturday in parts of South Australia and central Australia, before moving eastward towards New South Wales and Queensland on Sunday.
Weatherzone forecasts widespread rainfall of 20mm to 40mm in South Australia, southern and western Queensland, and northern New South Wales. Some areas may even experience isolated falls of more than 60mm. The majority of the rain is expected to fall between Friday and Tuesday.
