School can lead to financial gains.
T. Cleo Austin always knew she wanted to be her own boss. From a young age, she looked up to powerful female figures like Dominique Deveraux from the hit show Dallas and media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Inspired by their success and determination, Austin set out to create her own empire in the health and wellness industry.

Before diving into the world of health and wellness, Austin gained valuable experience in the corporate and entertainment worlds. She held management positions at luxury hotels and car companies, as well as freelanced as a wardrobe stylist and publicist for a popular hip hop tour. She even started her own hip hop club in South Florida.

However, Austin always felt like something was missing. She knew that each job was just a temporary stop on her journey to finding her true passion. In 2009, a colleague suggested she explore acupuncture after noticing her interest in metaphysical books. Austin applied to the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York and began a four-year program to become an acupuncturist and massage therapist.

As a full-time student, Austin has dedicated herself to her studies, taking six classes a semester and working in the clinic. Despite the high tuition costs, she has been able to finance her education through student loans and personal savings. After graduation, she plans to pay back her loans and build her own private practice.

Austin has big plans for her future in the health and wellness industry. She intends to work part-time at a rehabilitation center while also building her own private practice. Her goal is to earn between $3,500 to $5,000 a month in her first year, with expectations to increase her income in the future.

But private practice is not the only thing on Austin's mind. She also wants to offer her medical services abroad, particularly in Arusha, Tanzania. After participating in a volunteer trip to the country, she was inspired to embed a non-profit/for-profit endeavor into her post-graduate business plan. She hopes to raise funds through events like the EAST Africa Music Festival and partner with colleagues and friends in Tanzania to provide medical services to those in need.

Despite the challenges of being a student and the financial burden of her education, Austin remains determined to achieve her goals. She believes that by continuously updating her credentials and combining her social objectives with her business plan, she can create a successful and fulfilling career in the health and wellness industry. And she encourages others to do the same by doing their homework, planning for continuing education, and aligning their social objectives with their business and life plan.
