It’s safe to say that Emmerdale’s Samson Dingle had been acting rashly towards Amelia Spencer since he found out he was the father of her baby, Esther.
Rather than embracing the idea of being a father, he made it clear he had no interest in the baby and even tried to get her taken into care.
He did later use Esther for his own gain when Noah came into some money and decided to set up a trust fund for the baby – and Samson forced Noah to give him the majority of the money.

He then had a heart to heart with his dad Sam , and admitted that Amelia’s health scare took him right back to the trauma of losing his mum, Alice, to cancer when he was a baby. He was scared that the same would happen to Esther and he would not be able to step up and be a parent to his child.
Although this explains some of Samson’s behaviour, he still had a lot of making up to do. He started this process in Tuesday ’s episode by going to talk to Amelia, after Sam prompted him by saying ‘Sorry’s a good place to start.’
When Samson approached Amelia and Noah, Amelia was too exhausted and stressed to listen to him, but later Lydia told her that Samson was having a hard time coping with his feelings about his mum and asked Amelia to give him a chance. ‘He’s nowhere near as tough as he makes out,’ she said.
Amelia took Lydia's advice and went on her own to talk to Samson. For the first time since Esther was born he was open, honest and genuine.
He spoke about his mum and said that he’d panicked when he heard Amelia could be seriously ill. It was clear that Samson had taken steps to make amends and a positive change was evident.
