Sambalpur's elevated corridor to be finished by December 2026.
In Sambalpur, a city in the state of Odisha, there has been much anticipation for the elevated corridor on NH-53 at Ainthapali. According to an official, the completion of this project is expected to take place by December 2026.

Prem Sahu, the project director of the National Highways Authority of India in Sambalpur, has reported that construction is currently progressing at a rapid pace. "If everything goes according to plan," Sahu said, "the construction is likely to be finished by December next year."

The elevated corridor will be a six-lane road with a width of 14.5 metres and a total length of 3.44 km, including a 1.2 km flyover section. A large segment of NH-53, approximately 12 km, runs through Sambalpur city.

Currently, commuters face heavy traffic congestion in the Ainthapali area on the national highway, as the Sambalpur-Rourkela Biju Expressway and another road leading to the Sambalpur airstrip at Jamadarpali intersect with NH-53 at two separate crossroads. Additionally, a new bus terminus has been established in Ainthapali, resulting in around 450 buses passing through the road and contributing to the traffic congestion.

To alleviate these issues, it has been proposed that heavy vehicles will be directed to use the proposed elevated corridor. This will effectively alleviate traffic congestion in the area, according to officials.

The proposal for the elevated corridor was approved by the NHAI at the request of the Sambalpur district administration. Sources have reported that soil testing for the project was conducted in 2020.

In 2020, the Union Highways and Road Transport Ministry allocated Rs 374.17 crore for this project, along with the construction of a railway over-bridge near the venture, according to officials. PTI.
