Did you know that beloved actor Sam Aston, who plays Chesney Winter-Brown on Coronation Street, has a famous sister who also appeared on the ITV soap before him? It's true! Sam, now 31 years old, joined the show in 2003 as the mischievous son of Cilla and brother to Fiz. He quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his close relationships with Fiz's boyfriend Kirk and stepfather Les.
As the years went by, we saw Chesney grow up and face the challenges of adulthood, such as struggling with finances and being a supportive husband to Gemma and their five children. But before his time on Corrie, Sam made a name for himself in a memorable Warburton's bread commercial and had smaller roles in The Bill and Where The Heart Is. And soon, we'll see him hit the ice in the upcoming season of Dancing On Ice.
But Sam isn't the only one in his family with a connection to the cobbles. His sister Emily actually appeared on the show many years before him, in 1996. She played Becky Palmer, the daughter of Des Barnes' girlfriend Claire. Becky's father, an RAF lieutenant, had tragically died in a hangar fire, and she struggled to accept her mother's new relationship. Eventually, Claire and Becky moved into No. 6 with Des.
However, things became complicated when Claire realized she would lose her RAF pension if she lived with another man. To avoid this, she and Becky briefly moved into the flat above the bookmakers, but their secret was eventually discovered by Claire's former father-in-law. Becky also formed an unlikely friendship with Mavis Wilton, bonding over their shared love of birds, and had a schoolgirl crush on butcher Ashley Peacock.
Sadly, Becky's time on the show came to an end after only 51 episodes in 1997. Her character left after Claire found out about Des' attempts to seduce Samantha Failsworth. But the Aston family's ties to Coronation Street didn't end there. In 2000, Sam and Emily's brother Joseph joined the show as Tommy Duckworth, grandson of iconic characters Jack and Vera. It truly is a showbiz family!
