Sabrina Bahsoon, better known as Tube Girl, is reflecting on her incredible year. After filming herself dancing on the London Underground, she quickly became a viral sensation and amassed 800,000 followers on TikTok, with one video alone getting more than 10 million views.
Growing up in Malaysia, Sabrina never expected to become an accidental influencer. She recalls: “I just posted that video for fun, I definitely did not expect [to go viral].”
In the clip, Sabrina dances along to David Guetta’s song Where Them Girls At featuring Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida. She captioned the video: “Being the friend who lives on the other side of the city so you gotta hype yourself up during the commute.”
The 23-year-old’s fame rose beyond the Underground and around the world as more videos of her dancing on the Tube followed, with songs by artists including Rihanna, Raye and Charli XCX. She said of her videos: “They’re super empowering and they make you feel confident and like you’re that b*tch.”
The ‘Tube Girl’ name came from her current manager who got in touch with her as her social media page grew. Sabrina’s trend has led to women worldwide emulating the trend by proudly dancing on often packed public transport.
Her success on TikTok has introduced her into the world of celebrity and high fashion – she’s met stars such as Raye, Omar Apollo and Troye Sivan and even got to go backstage for a Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week.
Sabrina even knows a thing or two about each Tube line in terms of lighting and wind opportunities. She said the Central line is her favorite, as that is where the original video was filmed, and the Victoria line is another one she takes a lot to go and see her friends.
However, Tube Girl videos might not be around for long as Piccadilly line trains are set to receive a revamp in 2025 which could lead to similar changes on other lines and the removal of the Tube windows. Sabrina hopes to be a rock star by then but, as a back-up plan, her managers gifted her a leaf blower so she can have wind “whenever and anywhere”.
It’s been an out of this world year for Sabrina Bahsoon and there’s no telling what the future holds for her.
