Roman and Martin Kemp are one of the UK’s most recognizable father-son celebrity duos. He lives his life like that because he’s had so many people in his life that he thought he could trust, then realised he couldn’t.”
It’s no surprise that Martin only has his wife, the Pepsi & Shirlie star Shirlie, to rely on, but Roman still looks back fondly on his celebrity childhood. He said: “I’ve hit the jackpot with my parents. I’m so privileged. I got every birthday present I ever wanted. I went on amazing family holidays. I had a celebrity experience as a kid. But the thing my parents have taught me, which I want to pass down to my children, is how to love and how to understand someone else’s point of view.”
Roman has been in the public eye for nearly 10 years, since joining Capital FM in 2014. He went on to star in I’m A Celebrity, Celebrity Gogglebox with his dad, host a new BBC gameshow The Finish Line, and join The One Show. Despite his accomplishments, Roman says he is still subject to people thinking he is ‘the product of his parents’ fame, a nepo baby’. However, Roman has a mature perspective on this and admits “It’s part of nature for people to say you got this because of this person. I’ve thought like that!”.
