Rob Delaney, a well-known American actor, has been very open about his feelings of sorrow and loss for his young son, Henry. During an interview on Lauren Laverne's Desert Island Discs, he shared a heartbreaking desire to purchase the home where his son passed away. The 47-year-old star of "Argylle" expressed his interest to the current landlord, telling them that he would be willing to buy the house if they ever decided to sell it.
For Rob, the reason behind this wish is to be able to spend his last moments in the same place where his little boy spent his final moments. He explains to Laverne, "Even though we don't live there anymore, I asked the landlord to let me know first if they ever decide to sell it. I want to be able to crawl in there when I'm 81 and pass away in the same room where my son died, and where my other son was born."
Rob, who has three other sons with his wife Leah, also opened up about the difficult months leading up to Henry's passing. Despite the devastating illness, he believes that his son had a good death. He shares, "During his last four-and-a-half months, when we knew he was going to die, his brothers were so devoted to him."
The actor often shares photos on his social media account to remember Henry, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor at just 15 months old. He adds, "They loved each other so much...I witnessed my four and six-year-old holding their brother's lifeless body and taking care of him with so much love and dedication."
Rob admits that it pains him to think about his living children not having their younger brother with them, but he finds comfort in the fact that they talk about him all the time and smile while doing so. "He is still a big part of our lives," he says.
He also reveals that he still talks to Henry, even though he passed away over six years ago. He shares, "I don't know if he can hear me, but it doesn't matter. He is my son, and I am his dad, and I will always love him."
Henry passed away in London in January 2018, after undergoing chemotherapy at a young age. His parents first noticed something was wrong in 2016 when he started vomiting frequently and losing weight. They took him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Although he had surgery to remove the tumor and initially showed signs of improvement, the family received the devastating news that the tumor had returned in 2017. This led to a year of treatments before Henry passed away.
As Rob and Leah struggled to cope with the loss of their son, they welcomed their fourth child just a few months later in August. Rob shared with The Sunday Times that while they did want to have another child, they had mixed feelings about the birth of their youngest son. He explained, "Having another child didn't ease the pain of losing Henry, but at the same time, Henry's passing didn't make our new son any less special and magical."
