In the city of Rourkela, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation has been proactive in addressing the concerns raised by its citizens during a series of public hearings held between July 2nd and August 16th. Deputy Commissioner Anita Nayak, who was present in all the hearings alongside Commissioner and Rourkela ADM Ashutosh Kulkarni, shared that the progress of these grievances is being regularly reviewed by the RMC.

During the 12 public grievance hearings, the civic body received a total of 380 complaints from various individuals, groups, and even its own staff. The issues raised ranged from problems with drainage, lighting, water supply, roads, and parks, among others. Deputy Commissioner Nayak informed that while most of these issues fell under the jurisdiction of the RMC, some were referred to the concerned departments for resolution. For instance, complaints about water supply were promptly forwarded to WATCO and were successfully resolved as the department officials were present during the meetings.

Nayak further added, "We are glad to report that the majority of the complaints, such as clogged and overflowing drains and malfunctioning street lights, were resolved on the spot. None of these grievances were left unattended." However, certain issues that require more time and resources are being addressed separately. "For instance, we have identified a park in Koel Nagar that requires high mast lights, and a road in Chhend that needs to be constructed. These matters may take a little longer to resolve, but we are working on them diligently," Nayak explained.

In conclusion, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation is committed to addressing the concerns of its citizens and strives to provide timely solutions to improve the overall living conditions in the city. The efforts put in by the RMC during the public grievance hearings have been commendable, and they continue to work towards creating a better and more livable environment for all.
