Riley Keough shares her experience having Michael Jackson as her stepfather: focusing on the love she received.
Riley Keough has spoken about her childhood with step-dad Michael Jackson, and the actress opened up about her "very extreme" childhood growing up in a family of Hollywood royalty.

The 34-year-old granddaughter of Elvis Presley discussed her memories of her mother's brief marriage to the King of Pop in a candid interview with Vanity Fair. Riley's parents, Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough, married Michael in May 1994, just days after Lisa's divorce from Danny was finalized.

"My whole childhood was probably very extreme," Riley said. "In hindsight, I can see how crazy these things would be to somebody from the outside. But when you're living in them, it's just your life and your family. You just remember the love, and I had real love for Michael."

Riley went on to say that Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley had a lot in common, and that they both enjoyed making people happy in the "most epic way possible."

When asked which she liked better, Neverland or Graceland, Riley admitted that she spent more time at Neverland since Graceland was a museum during her lifetime.

But Lisa Marie's relationship with Michael wasn't to last, and the couple divorced in January 1996. After this, Lisa Marie moved on with John Oszajca before marrying Nicolas Cage in 2002, though their romance also ended in divorce shortly after.

Riley said she hasn't kept in touch with Nicolas Cage, but would be keen to star in a future project with him. "He's a great actor," she said. "I've had some wild stepfathers. Famous and not famous."

Riley is now a mother herself, having welcomed daughter Tupelo with husband Ben Smith-Peterson via a surrogate last August. The couple chose the unique name in honor of Elvis, and gave Tupelo the middle name of Storm after Riley's brother Benjamin Storm Keough, who sadly passed away in 2020.
