Rick Ross & Meek Mill supported each other through their struggles with substance abuse.
Meek Mill and Rick Ross opened up about how they helped each other through substance abuse on an episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life, as reported by Vibe. Host Ebro Darden facilitated a discussion about the “Biggest Boss” taking charge as the older of the two, after drugs caused medical complications Ross wrote about in his 10th studio album, Port of Miami 2.

Ross shared that he used codeine, and admitted to mixing it with other substances to create a drink known as “lean.” He further described how he had studio sessions with Mill and saw him dipping into similar habits, prompting him to take action and encourage Mill to “tighten up on this sh*t.” As XXL reported, Ross has to take a special medication due to his heavy use of the drug in the past.

Mill then reminisced on his heavy use of lean at the beginning of his career, and credited his 2019 prison stint for helping him kick the habit, suffering from severe withdrawals. “My stomach was bent over for like a year-and-a-half,” the Dreamchasers executive said. “I came home, 2019, I couldn’t smoke weed or really drink liquor like that. Before 2019, I was off the lean and all that. I changed my lifestyle — well, I thought I changed.”

Drug abuse has been a long-running issue in hip-hop, leading industry leaders like Master P to become advocates against substance abuse. Unfortunately, his daughter, Tytyana Miller, died in 2022 from an alleged overdose. Meek Mill and Rick Ross have used their stories to encourage others to get help and make positive changes in their lives.
