Richard condemns TV presenters'
Richard Madeley has spoken out against TV personalities who get a big head due to their fame. The former This Morning and Good Morning Britain presenter said that it's ridiculous to think that having access to people's living rooms through television makes them "somehow better" than anyone else.

Speaking on Kaye Adams' How To Be 60 podcast, Richard recalled his experiences when he started as a reporter at Border Television in 1978. He said that he quickly formed a contempt for people on television who believed their job made them special.

"Just because you can read the autocue or learn a short piece to camera out in the field," he said, "Why would you think that would make you any better than anyone else?"

In addition to talking about TV presenters, the 67-year-old broadcaster also spoke about the run-ins he's had with viewers. He explained how he often gets extraordinary abuse on social media just for puffing or sneezing.

He even recounted one particularly memorable instance when he was holidaying in Cornwall.

"He came right into my space, finger jabbing at my chest and he said, 'I just want you to know that everything you've ever done, everything you've ever said or will say, I loathe and f***ing despise, you c***'," he said.

However, Richard took it in his stride and burst out laughing.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1.
