Review of Freedom Planet 2 featuring female heroes with sonic speed.
Freedom Planet 2 is a game that many fans have been eagerly anticipating. It's the closest thing to a Sonic The Hedgehog sequel that we've seen in a long time, featuring a cast of animal mascots who are determined to relive the glory days of the Mega Drive era.

The Sonic series has had its ups and downs over the years, but recent releases like Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Superstars have given fans hope for the future. However, there's been some concern that we may never see another 2D Sonic game like Sonic Mania, as Sega has stated that they believe pixel art is no longer relevant to younger gamers. But, as many indie games have proven, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Enter Freedom Planet 2, a game that looks and sounds like it's been plucked straight out of 1991. At first glance, it may seem like a homage to Treasure's Gunstar Heroes, but it's actually a full-blown Sonic clone. And a darn good one at that.

While on paper, the Sonic formula shouldn't work - with its expansive and confusing level layouts and lightning-fast gameplay - somehow it does. And Freedom Planet 2 follows in its footsteps, delivering a thrilling and nostalgic experience that's hard to put down.

The game features four playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. There's Lilac, who is the closest to a Sonic copycat, Carol the cat who rides a motorcycle, Milla the dogirl with magical powers, and Neera the panda who can double jump and create ice projectiles. It's a refreshing change from Sonic's usual sidekicks and adds a layer of depth to the gameplay.

Speaking of gameplay, the combat in Freedom Planet 2 is more involved than in Sonic games, with each character having their own special moves. However, the lack of a homing attack may make it feel more generic, and the weightless feel of the characters can be a bit frustrating, especially in boss battles.

But don't let that discourage you. The graphics and sound in Freedom Planet 2 are spot on, evoking the charm and nostalgia of the 16-bit era. And while the plot may be more complex than your average Sonic game, it's still entertaining and features some impressive animation.

Overall, Freedom Planet 2 is a fantastic game that captures the essence of the Sonic series while adding its own unique twists. It may not be as polished as the classic Mega Drive games, but it's still a must-play for fans of the genre. With a promising future ahead, it's clear that Freedom Planet has a lot of potential to become a beloved series in its own right.
