Congressman Jamaal Bowman has his sights set on a third term in Congress, and he's using the same strategy that helped him win his seat in 2020- positioning himself as an outsider. Known as a "progressive firebrand" and a member of "The Squad," the 48-year-old Bowman is up against George Latimer, a popular executive and former state senator from Westchester County who has served in the Reagan administration.

During a recent festival in Co-Op City in the Bronx, Bowman took the opportunity to highlight the differences between himself and his opponent. "I believe in taxing the rich and large corporations, and I support reparations for Black people," he stated, as reported by NBC News. "But my opponent does not share these beliefs. If we want to avoid another Trump presidency and prevent further tragedies like the genocide in Gaza, we need to reject the status quo and support real change."

With the primary election quickly approaching on June 25th, Bowman's campaign is heavily focused on advocating for people of color in marginalized communities. In one of his campaign ads, posted on May 29th, Bowman spoke with Fire Commissioner Emma Walthall-Moon of the Fairview Fire District about the impact of climate change on the Parkway Gardens community in Queens. He emphasized the importance of bringing resources directly into communities that have been neglected for far too long.

Unfortunately, communities of color like Parkway Gardens are often hit the hardest by the effects of the climate crisis. Bowman gratefully thanked Walthall-Moon for her advocacy and stressed the need for marginalized voices to be at the forefront of the fight for a better world for all.

However, Latimer was not pleased with Bowman's remarks, particularly when he heard that Bowman had accused him of being "completely funded by right-wing, MAGA Republican billionaires." Latimer retaliated by accusing Bowman of being more concerned with fame and social media likes than actually fighting for the needs of District 16.

"It's not about impressing people who don't even live in the district," Latimer stated, according to NBC News. With 35 years of political experience under his belt, Latimer is confident in his record of delivering results for his constituents. In one of his campaign ads, he referred to Bowman as a "Congressman spreading lies and conspiracy theories" and used thought bubbles with some of Bowman's own quotes floating behind him.

While Bowman has certainly made headlines during his time in Congress- such as his heated exchange with Rep. Thomas Massie over gun control and standing up to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she compared being called a white supremacist to being called the N-word- he still maintains strong support from some of the most progressive lawmakers in the country.

In fact, according to The Hill, Bowman recently received a monumental endorsement from Senator Elizabeth Warren. In a statement, Warren praised Bowman for fighting for necessary issues such as Medicare for All and a Green New Deal. "I'm proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Congressman Bowman to combat the extremists of the MAGA movement and fight for working families," Warren wrote.

Bowman expressed his excitement and gratitude for Warren's endorsement, stating that he is proud to have her as a partner in their shared progressive vision.
