"They find comfort in your voice," Oti shared with Richard. "For two months, every single day, we would sing church music." The reverend empathized with her story, getting emotional himself as he recalled a little boy who was barely alive when he was baptized. "I just remember he was this tiny little pulse of life," Richard reminisced, "and David [the other priest] got a pipette of water, and we blessed it, and we baptized him. And he survived, and now he's a healthy young footballer, which is great. But I just felt so... it was such a precious thing."
After the two shared a heartfelt embrace, Oti continued to share her experience, revealing that her daughter was born very tiny and that it was a difficult time for her. "It's hell to be in the hospital, to hear those sounds, to not see your baby's eyes for a week," Oti said. "It's hell to constantly look for advice from the doctors." But the worst part for her was having to leave her baby in someone else's hands every night. This was a heartbreaking experience for the new mom.
As Oti and Richard continued to chat, she became more emotional and asked him to say a prayer for her daughter, which she would really appreciate. In a touching moment, Richard revealed that he had already said a prayer for her daughter and they embraced once again. He then shared with Oti about the death of his civil partner, David Coles, who was also a priest. "I miss him," Richard said. "He's just left a massive hole in my life, and I'm living my life around that loss." David had passed away in 2019 at the age of 43, and Richard still struggles to cope with his absence.
