Ravi Shankar Prasad claims TMC has shamed democracy & created an atmosphere of atrocity & anarchy.
The four-member fact finding committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comprising Ravi Shankar Prasad, Rekha Verma, Satyapal Singh and Rajdeep Roy reached Kolkata on Wednesday to investigate the poll-related violence in the state.

Addressing the media, BJP MP and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked Trinamool Congress (TMC) for the violence, saying it has shamed democracy. He pointed out that it was a sad sight to see the land of Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which was known for peace and tranquility, now marred by violence.

Prasad also questioned why Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and CPI leader Sitaram Yechury were silent about the situation in West Bengal. He accused the opposition of being selfish and willing to go to any lengths for power. He expressed his concern whether the fact finding team would be allowed to visit the violence-hit areas and talk to the victims.

In response to a query, the BJP MP said that the demand of the state BJP to implement article 355 was justifiable. He made it clear that the report of the Governor would be read and a decision taken accordingly.

Soon after the BJP's interaction with the media, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the media and called the team a 'protection team' and 'provocative team'. She questioned why such teams are not sent to Manipur and Tripura. She also mentioned the violence faced by her team in Tripura and Assam during the NRC protests.

Ravi Shankar Prasad also clarified that the decision to disqualify Rahul Gandhi for not apologising for his comments on Adani was not linked to him raising the Adani issue.
