Rain Threatens Celebrations of the State Festival

Madikeri, Oct 19: The threat of rain in Kodagu is casting a shadow over the grandeur of the 'Naada Habba' (State Festival) Dasara, leaving the public feeling disheartened. Although the weather had been sunny for the past few days, clouds have suddenly gathered, bringing heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning. With grand 'Ayudha Puja' ceremonies scheduled across the district for the 20th (today), organizers—currently in the final stages of preparation—are facing significant difficulties. Following the celebrations of Ayudha Puja on Tuesday, the grand finale of the festival, Vijayadashami, will take place in the district headquarters of Madikeri and the commercial hub of South Kodagu, Gonikoppa. The frequent changes in weather at both locations are causing considerable distress to the organizers.

A key attraction of the Dasara festival in Kodagu is the procession of the 'Dasha Mantapas' (ten decorated tableaux) in both Madikeri and Gonikoppa. The respective 'Mantapa' committees and the central 'Dasha Mantapa' committee have put in immense effort to prepare for the event.

However, it is unfortunate that the current weather conditions are disrupting the arrangements. Since Monday morning (Oct 19), the weather has been playing a game of hide-and-seek between clouds and sunshine. Around 11:30 AM, a heavy spell of rain lashed the area for about half an hour. Shop owners, workshop operators, and other members of the public—who were busy with cleaning and preparations for Ayudha Puja—faced significant hardship.
