Qualification for a politician in India is not just about having an education and degree, but also about being qualified for the position. The person should be knowledgeable, have leadership skills, have the capacity to work under pressure, and have a vision for the country. There are various qualifications required by law for becoming a politician in India such as age limit, minimum educational qualification, criminal records, etc.
In India, a person must be qualified for the position of a politician. A person should be an Indian citizen and not less than 25 years old. He or she should not have been convicted of any criminal offense. He or she should have his or her name on the electoral list of the constituency and should have resided in that constituency for at least six months before filing nomination papers.
Qualifications are a very crucial factor in the selection of a politician. It is not just about the educational qualifications but also about their experience in public life. The Constitution of India does not specify any particular qualifications for candidates standing for elections to Lok Sabha or State Legislative Assemblies, however, it lays down some qualifications for members of the Council of States and the Rajya Sabha. The Constitution also lays down certain disqualifications which debar a person from voting or being elected as President, Vice-President, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), or Member of State Legislature (Vidhan Sabha).
The Constitution specifies that a person shall not be eligible for election as President if he holds any office of profit under the Government of India or the Government of any State. Likewise, they cannot be vice presidents if they hold any such office under either Central or state government. Similarly, they cannot be elected to either House if they hold an office under Central or state government.
