Pret's free coffee is no more, check out these other subscription options for your caffeine fix.
RIP, free Pret coffees – you'll be missed.

Club Pret members, how are you feeling? Today marks the end of an era – the last day you'll be able to get your hands on free coffees at Pret. We understand your pain and we're just as devastated as you are.

In July, the popular high street chain announced changes to its subscription model, which means saying goodbye to both free drinks and discounted food for loyal customers. Starting from September 3, the current £30 monthly fee will be replaced with a £10 fee, but subscribers will only receive 50% off five drinks per day.

Existing and new members will pay a reduced fee of £5 per month for the first few months, but this will eventually increase to the full £10 fee from March 31, 2025. We know, it's a tough pill to swallow.

But why did Pret decide to scrap the free coffee subscription? According to Claire Clough, Pret UK&I Managing Director, there were some aspects of the deal that the company was never fully comfortable with. After four years and serving over a quarter of a billion coffees, they have decided to rethink the subscription and focus on better value for all customers, not just subscribers.

But fear not, coffee lovers. There are other subscription services available in the UK to satisfy your caffeine cravings.

For example, LEON offers a Roast Rewards programme for £25 per month, which includes five barista-made drinks per day and a 20% discount on food. And if you love their hash browns, you're in luck – the discount applies to their breakfast and all-day food menu. Just keep in mind, you can only order one coffee per hour as part of your daily limit, so sharing with a friend will require an additional payment.

The Coffee Club subscription covers a variety of coffee shops, including Caffè Nero, Black Sheep Coffee, and more. For just £2.99 per month, members can enjoy 25% off barista-made drinks all day, every day. There's also an annual membership option for £24.99 and a 30-day free trial. Plus, if you collect stamps at Caffè Nero, you can combine this with the Coffee Club discount for even more savings.

Blank Street, known for its unique drinks like blueberry matcha and iced pistachio latte, offers a Regulars membership for £12 per month. With this, members can get 14 free barista-made drinks per week, with a 20% discount on any additional drinks. Sadly, this membership is currently full, but keep an eye on their website for updates.

Finally, while not a monthly subscription, Costa Coffee's Costa Club offers some great benefits. For every 10 drinks purchased, you'll receive a free drink of your choice. And if you use a reusable cup, you'll earn an extra bean. Plus, you'll get a free slice of cake on your birthday – a sweet treat indeed.
