On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu felicitated an inspiring woman farmer from Dindori, Lahri Bai, with the Plant Genome Patron Farmer Award for 2021-22. The award was given to her for her conservation and promotion of the rare “Sri Anna” species.
Lahri Bai was presented with a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000, a citation, and a memento during the investiture ceremony of the Farmers’ Rights Global Seminar, which was held at the C. Lahri Bai, a resident of Bajag tehsil in the Dindori district, had created a seed bank that contains a variety of rare “Sri Anna” species such as Kodo, Kutki, Sanwa, Kaag, Sikiya and Madua, with the help of the Baiga community. She will be showcasing her seed bank in a global symposium which will take place in Delhi from September 12 to 15, 2023.
MP agriculture minister Kamal Patel congratulated Lahri Bai on her remarkable achievement. Her work was also praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address.
