On Sunday, a team from the Delhi Police conducted a search at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and seized a digital video recorder as part of their ongoing investigation into the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal by the CM's Personal Secretary, Bibhav Kumar, on May 13. It is reported that the police have also collected other electronic devices, including the DVR, in order to obtain footage of the incident.
CM Kejriwal's close aide, Bibhav Kumar, was arrested on Saturday in connection with the assault on Maliwal and was brought before a local court in the late hours of the night. The court then ordered him to be held in police custody for five days. Sources have revealed that Kumar has been giving evasive responses during the probe.
Late on Saturday night, the Delhi Police had requested Kumar's custody, explaining to the court that the CCTV footage provided to them was blank. They also mentioned that Kumar had handed over his mobile phone but refused to divulge the password. The police further claimed that Kumar had formatted his phone the day before, citing a technical issue. They also stated that before a phone is formatted, its data should be cloned, and thus, it was necessary for Kumar to be taken to Mumbai in order to retrieve the data. An expert's presence was also required to unlock the mobile phone.
The Delhi Police have registered a case against Kumar for molestation and attempted culpable homicide, following the alleged assault on Maliwal at the Chief Minister's residence on May 13. The FIR includes charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 308, 341, 354, 506, and 509, at the Civil Lines police station.
