Madikeri, Aug. 19: Police roamed outside districts and states to arrest the accused who had stolen from the city police hostel and finally succeeded in arresting them, Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said.

He gave information about the theft case at the district police office. In June, three separate cases were registered at the Madikeri city police station regarding the theft of Rs. 95,000 in cash and 5.5 grams of gold ornaments from the police hostel. This case had become a challenge for the police.

No clue was found about the accused in the case. When the investigation was conducted, a blurry photo of three people coming and going on a bike was found. When it was followed, it was found that the bike had gone towards Somwarpet. But the bike had not gone further than Somwarpet. When the investigation was conducted, the bike was found in a lake in Kandanakolli. When the bike was checked, it was found to belong to a person from Goa. When they went there, they got information about a theft there too. It was also confirmed that the thieves had come to Madikeri from Goa and committed the theft. Later, the investigation was intensified and Suresh Sengal (23) of Narvalla village in Thar district of Madhya Pradesh state and Manish Bhagel (27) of Malpur village were arrested, the SP said. He said that the investigation is continuing to arrest the other two accused, Kalu and Poonam.

Bike theft

The accused had come from Goa on a bike and committed the theft. The accused stole a bike in Goa and came here from there, stole another bike in Makkandur here, left the bike they had come with in the Kandanakolli lake, went to Belur on the bike stolen in Makkandur, left it there and stole another bike and went to Madhya Pradesh. The SP informed that the accused used to steal bikes from different places and change bikes to travel.

More than 500

CC camera examination

A police team had conducted investigations in Goa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Mangalore and Hassan to find the accused. In addition, more than 500 CCTV cameras were examined for about 700 km. The accused were arrested with the cooperation of the technical team and police officers and personnel from other districts and foreign states. The police team conducted an operation for the accused in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, the hometown of the accused, for a month.

For this operation, the department spent Rs. 15 lakhs were spent, Ramarajan said.

They used to sacrifice sheep!

If the accused in the theft cases were successful, they would sacrifice a sheep at a Devi Sannidhi in Tanda, Madhya Pradesh and then return home.

Among the arrested accused, Suresh Sengal has more than 25 criminal cases registered in Karnataka and other states. A murder case against Poonam, who is absconding, and an attempt to murder case against Kalu have been registered in Thar district, Ramarajan said. The SP informed that Rs. 50,480 in cash, 9 mobile phones, a bolt cutter, an iron rod, and a backpack bag were seized from the arrested persons.

He said that the accused in this case are notorious criminals and the department will take action after collecting necessary evidence to ensure that they are severely punished.
