On Friday evening, a 29-year-old man was found injured in the Abbey estate near Abbey Road, London, after 7.30pm. He was rushed to hospital but died later that night.
The Metropolitan Police have now confirmed a murder investigation has been launched, and are appealing to anyone who was in the Abbey estate at the time of the incident to come forward with information. Parts of the estate were cordoned off as officers with torches searched for evidence.
Residents living nearby watched on in shock and horror. Felicia Adarkwa, 65, described hearing arguments and boys and girls shouting before the incident. Sheila Gallagher, 69, noticed the police presence after 9pm. Abdul, 50, said that the area had been quite nice in recent months, but the event had made him worry for his own children.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson said, "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Abbey estate on Friday night between 7pm and 8pm, who may have seen or heard something they believe could be connected to this fatal stabbing. Another family have been left grieving the loss of a loved one due to knife crime. My team of detectives are working around the clock to identify and arrest the person responsible."
The family of the victim have been informed and a post-mortem examination is planned. There were 104 homicides in the capital between January 1 and December 7 this year, according to the Metropolitan Police. Anyone with information is asked to call the Met on 101.
