Police in Sundargarh, Odisha have arrested six poachers for illegal hunting.
On Friday, in the district of Sundargarh in Odisha, a group of poachers was caught and arrested by the forest officers. This was a result of a well-planned operation carried out by our team, which successfully dismantled the entire gang. Our efforts paid off as we were able to apprehend six individuals involved in illegal poaching activities. The team also seized various items from the poachers, including five country-made guns, a bow and arrow, and other hunting tools.

According to Lalit Patra, DFO of Bonai forest division, the arrested poachers were planning a large-scale operation in the wildlife-rich Bonai forest division. This could have caused significant harm to the ecosystem and put the lives of innocent animals in danger. The individuals who were arrested have been identified as Raj Kumar Pradhan, Ramani Ranjan Patra, Sarat Naik, Bhima Kishan, Narayana Hasti, and Biswanath Hasti. While Sarat Naik and Bhima Kishan are from Sambalpur, the rest of the poachers hail from Kello village in Gurundia police station area in Sundargarh district.

The forest officer further added that the team had been closely monitoring the activities of these poachers for the last three months. The team had also been gathering intelligence about their illegal activities, which ultimately led to their arrest. The operation involved the participation of the ACF of Bonai forest division, range officers of Jarda and Tamra range, and 35 other departmental staffers.

During the operation, the forest officers also seized several items from the poachers, including five guns, a monkey skin, a barking deer trophy, a snare, gunpowder, pellets, two mobile phones, a motorcycle, feathers of Indian peafowl, and a porcupine spine. These items serve as evidence of their illegal activities and will be used to prosecute them. This successful operation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team in preserving the wildlife and protecting the environment.
