Police arrest three suspects involved in an online job scam.
In a recent case of online fraud, the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar have successfully caught three men who were involved in a fake job racket. These men are accused of tricking a man and swindling a hefty amount of 2.5 lakh rupees from him. ACP Anjana Tudu has revealed that the accused men, Balgopal Barik, Debendra Kumar Sethi, and Sandip Kumar Rout, enticed their victims by offering money in exchange for giving five-star ratings to hotels and restaurants.

The victim, Ajay Kumar Panda, a resident of Patia area, was initially contacted by the trio through WhatsApp. They convinced him to give positive ratings to various hotels in exchange for money. Ajay agreed to this and received the promised funds after giving the desired ratings. However, the trio then asked him to join a Telegram group named VIP 5000 and invest 5,000 rupees to earn higher returns. Taking the bait, Ajay made the investment and received the promised money. But the con artists didn't stop there; they further persuaded Ajay to invest a larger sum of money, this time in lakhs.

Trusting the trio, Ajay went ahead and made a transaction of 2.5 lakh rupees. However, soon after the transaction, the scammers removed Ajay from the Telegram group and disappeared without a trace. ACP Tudu informed that the preliminary investigations have revealed that the money was transferred to a bank account under the name of Acadify Technology. The fraudsters had opened 10 mule accounts in different bank branches in Bhubaneswar to carry out their illegal activities.

After receiving the complaint, the Cyber Police Station at VSS Nagar took swift action and booked the culprits under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 66 and 67 of the Information Technology Act. The accused were produced before a local court for further proceedings. It is yet another example of the police's relentless efforts to curb cyber fraud and bring the perpetrators to justice.
