PMC hires 30 traffic wardens to reduce traffic congestion in Navi Mumbai.
Navi Mumbai: In order to address the challenges posed by traffic congestion in Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) area, the Commissioner has taken swift action by deploying 30 security guards from the Maharashtra Security Force. These personnel have been strategically stationed within PMC jurisdiction in order to assist the Navi Mumbai Police's traffic department.

The General Body of PMC had earlier approved a proposal to provide 50 wardens, however, the Commissioner has taken the initiative and arranged for additional security personnel to manage traffic during the recent Ganeshotsav festival. The municipality has allocated a monthly salary of ₹12 lakh per month and a substantial annual budget of ₹1.44 crore to assist the police in tackling traffic congestion.

The security personnel have been actively regulating traffic at key intersections throughout Panvel. This collaborative effort is expected to reduce traffic congestions, which is a common issue during festive seasons. Meanwhile, the corporation has kept an additional 15 security guards for its own security arrangement.

In 2018, the Navi Mumbai police had written to PMC, demanding 100 traffic wardens to manage traffic as the corporation is surrounded by major roads and witness the movement of heavy vehicles around the clock. This demonstrates the importance of having enough personnel to manage traffic, especially during the festive season.

In a similar move, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has also announced its plans to deploy traffic wardens on metro sites. This is to ensure commuters have safe and easy access during peak hours.

The deployment of traffic wardens in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai is proof of the commitment of the local authorities to address the challenges posed by traffic congestion. With the help of these wardens, the authorities are hopeful of creating a safer and more efficient transport system in the city.
