Plane forced to divert due to loose horse in airfield.
On November 9th, Air Atlanta Icelandic’s specialist charter flight CC4592 to Liege, Belgium from JFK Airport in New York had to turn around mere minutes after take off. Footage of the incident has been uploaded on YouTube under the channel ‘You can see ATC’, claiming that it happened shortly after 4.06pm local time. According to the video, the pilot requested the return to New York when they were at 31,000ft due to a horse having broken out of its stall in the cargo hold, which the crew were unable to secure.

The flyboys could be heard informing the control tower over the intercom, “We are a cargo plane with a live animal, a horse, on board. The horse has broken out of its stall.” After landing back in New York, the plane dumped 20 tonnes of fuel before taking off again at 6.35pm local time, and eventually arrived in Liege at 6.49am local time. Although the current state of the horse is unclear, there was a request for a vet at the airport after the horse was described as being ‘in difficulty’.

This is not the first time that a plane has had to turn around due to an unusual reason. In September of this year, a Delta aircraft had to make an emergency landing after a passenger’s bout of diarrhoea was declared a ‘biohazard’. The plane had already left Georgia and was above Virginia when the pilots decided to return. The pilot informed air traffic control that “This is a biohazard issue.”
