Today, Jamie Sansom, a heroic teacher at Tewkesbury Academy in Gloucestershire, was allegedly stabbed by a teenage boy. The incident caused parents to immediately praise Mr Sansom for his brave actions. Police were called to the school around 9:10am and rushed him to the hospital. He is in a stable condition now.
The police arrested the teenage suspect and he is currently in police custody. Parents of students of the school shared their heartfelt thoughts and praised Mr Sansom for his dedication to the students. One parent commented, “Thank goodness, it’s all over. I hope Mr Sansom pulls through ok. He is a wonderful teacher and I wish him a speedy recovery.” Another parent described him as “one of the best teachers I’ve ever met.” His success in teaching maths to his students was highly praised.
The school was put on lockdown during and after the incident with students at the adjacent primary school and nursery also confined to their classrooms. Parents were sent to a nearby garden centre for updates and support from police, yet many still came to the school’s gates.
Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone said, “The suspect, a teenage boy from Tewkesbury, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. This was clearly a very distressing incident and our thoughts are with the victim, their family, and everyone impacted by what happened here at the school. We are working with the school and other agencies to ensure appropriate support is available and local people will see more police in the area over the coming days as the investigation continues.”
