Pet Shop Boys are not happy with Drake's latest album. The pop duo have accused the rapper of sampling one of their tracks without permission. The track in question is All The Parties and features the chorus of West End Girls, first released by Pet Shop Boys in 1986.
In the 1986 song, Pet Shop Boys sing: “In a West End town, a dead-end world, the East End boys and West End girls.” In Drake's song, he sings: “East End boys and West End girls, yeah, East End boys and West End girls, ayy.”
The duo took to social media to express their disappointment. “Surprising to hear Drake singing the chorus of West End girls in the track All the Parties on his new album,” they said. “No credit given or permission requested.”
Fans were quick to support the It’s A Sin hitmakers, some of them even suggesting Drake might be receiving a lawyer’s letter soon. This isn't the first time Drake has been accused of ‘stealing’ songs from other artists. In April 2023, Ghanaian rapper, Obrafour, filed a $10 million lawsuit claiming Drake had used one of his songs without permission.
Drake has also been accused of stealing songs from Drum’n Skillz and Mr Cooper, Soulja Boy, and the late XXXTentacion. However, in each case, Drake emerged in the clear, either by negotiation or court ruling.
Only time will tell if Pet Shop Boys will be successful in their allegations against Drake. Reps for both parties have been contacted for comment. Are you a fan of Drake’s new album? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
