David Devey, 40, was shocked when he visited the Morrisons store in Gamston, Nottinghamshire and encountered a large section of the floor cracked and a cone placed on top. To his surprise, a brown liquid shot up his leg as he inadvertently stepped on the bubble.
Mr Devey said he was disgusted with the state of the toilet and the smell that filled the air. He felt the need to go home and take a shower after the incident.
After complaining to staff, he was offered £20 in compensation, which he felt was not enough to cover the cost of his jeans and flip flops, which he had to throw in the bin.
Rushcliffe Borough Council has also received a complaint from Mr Devey on September 19 and is continuing to investigate the matter.
A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We have spoken to the customer today to apologise for his experience in our store and to reiterate how seriously we are taking his complaint. We will be following up with him in the coming days but in the meantime we can confirm that the leak has been fixed.”
