In Pennsylvania, a school crossing guard is facing serious allegations of providing more than just permission to cross the street to middle school students. The incident came to light when 26-year-old Kiara Lee was arrested on June 4 and charged with two counts of corruption of minors, two counts of possession of marijuana, and other charges. According to reports from NBC 10 Philadelphia, Lee was working at Penn Wood Middle School in Darby Borough, located approximately seven miles outside of Philadelphia, when she allegedly gave electronic cigarettes and marijuana edibles to the students.

Chief Joseph J. Gabe of the Darby Borough Police Department expressed his pride in the officers for their dedicated efforts in protecting the children of the community. He also stressed the importance of this mission and the need to ensure the safety of the kids. While some may not see marijuana as a serious issue, Chief Gabe stated that it is unacceptable for a crossing guard to provide any type of narcotics, even if it is just marijuana, to the students. He also extended his gratitude to the staff at Penn Wood Middle School, particularly Principal Cox, for their cooperation in the investigation.

The incident first came to light on May 16 when the principal, Myishing Cox, had a conversation with a student and their guardian about the use and distribution of narcotics near the school. The matter was then reported to the Darby Borough Police Department. The student revealed that they had witnessed Lee giving vapes to other students, and they had personally witnessed this happening on three separate occasions. The student also mentioned that they had smoked with Lee on numerous occasions. This was corroborated by another student who confirmed seeing Lee giving vapes to students, and a third student also confirmed this to authorities. The police then contacted the guardian of the first student, who confirmed that their child had indeed been receiving vapes and edibles from Lee.

Further evidence was found in the form of text messages between the student and Lee. These messages not only confirmed that the student had taken the edibles, but they also discussed the experience via text. As of now, Lee remains in jail as she has not been able to post a $20,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 14.

In a similar incident, a group of Florida students are facing felony and misdemeanor charges after a brawl at their high school. It is disheartening to see such incidents involving young students, and it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
